Summer 2011 performances summary:
June performances in Blonay, Switzerland of new works by composers Kyle Werner, Dylan Sheridan and Elizabeth Ogonek. This was part of the Music X festival, led by Eigth Blackbird members. Guest composers included David Lang, Matthias Pintscher and Joel Hoffman.
July performances at the So Percussion Summer Institute. This included the premiere of "Babybot" by composer Andrea Mazzariello, performances of pieces by Matmos' Martin Schmidt and members of So Percussion. Premiere of Dan Deacon's first non-electronic piece "Purse Hurdler at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City, and an all John Cage concert in Princeton, NJ.
August performances at Steve Schick's "Roots and Rhizomes" in Banff, Canada. The program finished with a late night performance of the spectacular percussion masterwork "Le Noir de l'Etoile" by Gérard Grisey (as coached by Jean-Paul Bernard, artistic director of les Percussions de Strasbourg, who originally comissioned the piece in 1991).
